Barnacle Geese

In early October I was back in my old "stomping grounds" around the Solway Firth in S.W. Scotland. During the winter months, almost the entire population of Svalbard-breeding Barnacle Geese Branta leucopsis (N=hvitkinngås) are present on the Solway. A visit to the WWT refuge at Caerlaverock is a must for me at any time of year, and especially in winter when there are huge numbers of wildfowl, including my favourite birds - the Barnacle Geese.
