Autumn waders

One of the highlights of early autumn must surely be the annual wader passage. Here is a little selection of photos taken of waders around the Trondheimsfjorden this autumn.

Eurasian Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus (N=tjeld)

Curlew Sandpiper Calidris ferruginea (N=tundrasnipe) in strong backlight. Dunlin Calidris alpina (N=myrsnipe) in background.

Temminck's Stint Calidris temminckii (N=temmincksnipe). First calendar year.

Little Stint Calidris minuta (N=dvergsnipe). First calendar year.

Ruff Philomachus pugnax (N=brushane) trying to hide behind a tuft of grass.

They are actually rather confiding birds....

...yet at the same time a bit wary.
