Whooper Swans in the snowy stubbles

Yesterday I took a trip to look at a flock of Whooper Swan Cygnus cygnus (N=sangsvane) that had recently arrived on the other side of the fjord from the house. The birds were feeding on the snow-covered stubble fields at Skatval. I counted 139 adults and 37 young swans (hatched last summer). Nice to see so many young, in particular a big family with a pair with 5 young in the flock. The noise from this flock was fantastic, echoing from the woodland and low hills surrounding the field. I went home a very happy man:-)
