Yesterday (2nd May) I travelled north, my final destination being Herøy in Nordland county. En route I stopped off at several sites in Nord-Trøndelag county to look at Pink-footed geese Anser brachyrhynchus (N = kortnebbgås). There were several flocks close to main roads, allowing me to both read combinations on coloured rings as well as providing good photo opportunities.

Arrived (late) at Herøy yesterday. Had a quick look for Barnacle geese Branta leucopsis (N = Hvitkinngås) before unpacking all my gear. This is the start of my 23rd (!) field season monitoring Barnacle geese in this area. Today I found around 500 in our study area (the islands of Tenna, Sør-Herøy and Nord-Herøy.
