...and more Purple Sandpipers

I hope you are not getting fed up of Purple Sandpipers Calidris maritima (N=fjæreplytt). I am certainly not fed up of them - they are wonderful birds. Today I took a break at lunchtime and got close to a flock of 9 birds at Midtsandan - the flock that has been here all winter. I sat on th ebeach and the birds came very close - well worth getting a wet backside for :-) The ringed bird was also present in the flock (left tibia - orange colour ring, left tarsus - metal ring, right tibia - light green (lime) flag with black letters HNU). Ringed in 2008 at Longyearbyen in Svalbard.
