Seaducks

Seaduck numbers have started to build up in the inner part of the Trondheimsfjord during the past few days. Today I visited Hommelvik harbour to count ducks. A rather obliging male Common Goldeneye Bucephala clangula (N=kvinand) sat on top of a pole which is part of the remains of an old quay, one of several Goldeneye in the harbour area. There has been a nice flock of Common Eider Somateria mollissima (N=ærfugl) feeding in the harbour, especially around the boat marina where they feed on Common Mussels Mytilus edulis (N=blåskjell) under the floating piers. Today there were over 660 feeding there.
