Gulls and otters

Apologies for the long silence. Basically, I haven't taken very many photos of late due to poor light and short winter days. However, the weather has been nice (cold, calm and clear) the last two days so I have ventured out. Lots of Iceland Gulls Larus glaucoides (N=grønlandsmåke) around now, with somewhere around 30 in the Trondheimsfjord at present!  Had fantastic views of 3 otters today, afraid the photos below just do not do them justice! The shots below are all digiscoped and the poor quality is the fault of my lousy old telescope and not the brand new camera :-).

Black-headed gull Larus ridibundus (N=hettemåke), Hommelvik, Sør-Trøndelag 16th January 2012. This is a second calendar year bird. Note the dark markings on the wings and tertials.

Close-up of the same Iceland Gull as above. The dark feathering on wings and e.g. breast indicate that this is a second calendar year bird.
