Trysil in Hedmark, Easter 2017

Just back from six days in Trysil, south-east Norway. Variable weather, the first three days were almost snow-free, and then a couple of days with some new snow. Plenty of small rodents around, and some nice birds too (including some rodent eaters!).

Three of four Great Spotted Woodpeckers Dendrocopos major (N=flaggspett) feeding in one garden....

....and here's the fourth one!

A male Black Woodpecker Drycopus martius (N=svartspett) moving between drumming posts.

A watchful Hawk Owl Surnia ulula (N=haukugle), one of two seen during the trip. This bird spent some time perched close to some building where there was plenty of activity from small rodents, before moving to a nearby clear-felled area.

Siberian Jay Perisoreus infaustus (N=lavskrike). The coolest of the crow family! Two of these sat a few metres away from me and we watched each other for over an hour. They are just sooooo nice!

A male Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea (N=vintererle), adding a splash of colour beside the local river (Trysilelva).

A pair of Common Bullfinches Pyrrhula pyrrhula (N=dompap) feeding on willow Salix buds.
