Eiders and dunlin

Yesterday (5th August) I popped down to the beach at Hommelvik, Malvik to see if there were any birds around. One of the first birds I spotted was a half-grown young eider Somateria mollissima (N=ærfugl), which swam towards me, allowing close views.

Today, 6th August, I went down to the shore at Midtsandan, just down the hill from our house. I lay down on the sand (one does these things!) and waited for a small flock of Dunlin Calidris alpina (N=myrsnipe) to come closer. And I was rewarded with the sight of a group of juveniles only 6-7 metres away!
